ACTI offers a com plete high-pressure system because experience has shown that high-pres sure systems provide higher levels of protection, lower operating costs, and greater dependability. The ACTI high-pressure Type C system includes the compressor, an in-line air bank, manifolds, CO monitor and alarm, filtration systems, high-pressure lines, fittings, hoses and other accessories required for operation. ACTI also offers Willson pressure-demand respirator face masks for use with the system. The system includes filters re quired to process air for human consumption to meet grade-D stand ards. Also included are all necessary pressure gauges on the compressor, the air bank and the manifolds. Cooling is provided through the process of adiabatic pressure reduc tion. This means that cooling occurs automatically, and without any addi tional mechanical means, when highpressure air is expanded to ambient pressure at the respirator manifold. Operating at high pressure elimi nates many of the standard worries about compressor malfunction or air contamination. The compressor pumps air through a CO monitor and into an air bank. The actual air provided to workers comes from the stored supply in the air bank. This means that even if the compressor fails or is shut down because oil, water or CO contamination is occur ring in the compressor lines, the job site does not have to be evacuated. A crew of up to 16 men can continue to work for hours on the large volumes of air stored at 4,000-to-5,000 psi in the in-line air bank. This extremely larga reserve air capacity is what sets high-pressure systems apart from low-pressure systems. Probably the single greatest disadvantage of traditional low-pressure systems is that they normally can provide only minutes of reserve time and require immediate job site evacuation when compressor problems occur. Our high-pressure system also al lows a contractor to fill an air bank and send just that tank to a small job site. No compressor is required at the job site because there is enough air to run a small crew of three or four for several days. No monitors or alarms are needed because the air has already been processed through all required monitors and alarms when it was originally stored in the tank. This is the best thought out Type C system we have ever seen, and we feel it is unusually well suited for as bestos abatement work. The ACTfAIR Purifier represents the state-ofthe-art in purifying equipment for breathing air. This unit processes the air coming from your compressor to grade-D quality as outlined in Compressed Gas Association Bulletin G-7.1. Air which is collected, compressed and routed through an industrial compressor can be changed in many ways. The air may contain particulate dirt, water vapor, oil vapor, carbon monoxide, odors and other con taminants. All of these represent a health threat to your workers. Par ticulate matter can affect the function of valves and other mechanisms thoughout the system. Excessive moisture is not healthy. Oil vapor can cause lipoid pneumonia. Carbon monoxide, which comes from the ex haust of cars, trucks and other combustion engines, is dangerous even in minute amounts. It can cause weakness and disorientation and even death if it contaminates a breathing air system. Unpleasant odors can drastically affect a worker's sense of well-being and productivity. The ACTI-Air Purifier is designed to process out these contaminants through an ultra-sophisticated sys tem of filters, catalysts and adsorbers. This is how it works: compressed air exits your rented, industrial com pressor and then enters the ACTI-Air Purifier to move through a prefilter that removes oil, liquid water and par ticulates. Then, it enters a dryer which reduces water vapor. The third stage is a catalyst that converts car bon monoxide to carbon dioxide. The final stage involves a filtration system which processes out unacceptable tastes and odors. The ACTI-Air Purifier features two color-change indicators that assist in maintaining the system. Because escape time is an impor tant consideration when operating a Type C system, the unit also comes with built-in mechanisms for controll ing a standby reserve of bottled breathing air. This reserve control au tomatically provides a brief supply of air to workers in the event of com pressor malfunction or in-line contamination problems. The ACTI-Air Purifier also includes a continuous CO monitor and an audibie/visual alarm system which operates in three modes.
