We regret the delays and inconveniences caused in not responding to your letter sooner. f A review of the file on the built-up roof on building M766 shows the four ply roofing assembly was of good quality being applied to a concrete deck with a slope of o" to 1-1/2" per foot. .Mr. Hart's letter of December 6, 1985 quoted the facts to be as follows: 1 - "The materials came directly from the warehouse." 2 - "They were stored in a dry building - 3 stories off the ground." 3 - "The roof was inspected from the start to the finish by the Navy inspectors, Mr. Buddy Haseldon and hi's assistant." Mr. Marsh, our professional roofing consultant, inspected the roof with Mr. Hart on August 19, 1985. He reports "a few air pockets have shown up since the completion of the roof. The pockets are not large and seem to be between the deck and the base sheet. No leaks from the roof are evident nor have any been reported." Bird lncorpor.*lc<l/As( Walpole. The following questions are raised: 1 - What was the condition of the concrete deck prior to reroofing? 2 - What precautions were taken to ensure that the concrete did not contain any entrapped moisture? Bird does not believe it is responsible for the occurrence of the air pockets on the built-up roof in question. Even so. Bird offers to resolve this claim, amicably. We would be willing to contribute towards the roofing materials used to fix the subject roof by splitting the blisters and' repairing them and installing gravity vents, not to exceed $650 ($10 times 65 squares). Upon the receipt of a signed release. Bird will issue you a check in the amount of $650. Enclosed is a standard release form.
