Kehoe The Kettering Laboratory College of Medicine Eden and Bethesda Avenues Cincinnati 19, Ohio Dear Bob: A member of the medical staff of one of our customers has had a discussion with a member of the Swiss Lead Committee. According to a letter we have received from the customer, the following is the report of the conversation: "Dr. Kehoe acted more or less as a discussion leader of the Ethyl team. He informed that in principle he was not very much in favor of the use of TML as, according to his feelings, the investigations carried out so far, are not fully conclusive. The members of the Swiss Lead Committee got the impres sion that clearance for the introduction of TML in the States has been based on a single test carried out in one large garage during a few months and there is no evidence at the moment that TML is less, or at least no more harmful than TEL. "Dr.-- further informed that this discussion created some doubt in the minds of the members of the Lead Committee and Dr. is of the opinion that as long as there is no well backed evidence given about the relative harmless nature of TML in motor gasolines, no clearance will be given for the use of TML in this country.11 You will note that I have omitted the name of the member of the Swiss Lead Committee who is referred to because I do not presently feel I am at liberty to disclose his identity. Are you in any position to tell us more about what happened in Switzerland and what plans, if any, you have for following through with the Swiss authorities. Or is this a matter which you have dropped and which we should be developing with Associated Ethyl?"
