SUBJECT ASBESTOS MONITORING DURING DEMOLITION OF OLD AC FACILITY
Air sampling for asbestos fibers is being conducted during the demolition of the old allyl chloride production facility. This monitoring fulfills OSHA requirements and measures the effectiveness of the dust control procedures. Area samples are being collected within the old allyl chloride facility and in downwind, adjacent process areas.
Sample results, as shown in the attached table, are much less than the OSHA 8-hour time-weighted average exposure limit of 5 fibers per cubic centimeter of air. This indicates that downwind process areas have not been exposed to significant concentrations of asbestos as a result of this demolition work. The housekeeping continues to be good, and the handling of insulated equipment and scrap insulation complies with OSHA and EPA regulations for asbestos.
In view of ttese low sample results, there will be a reduction in the frequency of sampling. Sampling is planned during the insulation stripping of C-21. Additional survey results will be forthcoming.
