ANDERSON AUTO ANOTHER NAPA PARTS STORE WITH QUITE A HISTORY Automobile Accessories Company of Redding, California, isn't the only NAPA Parts Store with quite a history to boast of. Witness Frank and Geraldine Anderson's Anderson Auto Supply of Gardiner, Maine. Anderson Auto Supply, serviced out of the NAPA New England Distribution Center, is housed in what used to be Gar diner's railroad station. The building, con structed in 1911 and decommissioned in 1960 by the Maine Central Railroad, is Gar diner's newest entry on the National Register of Historic Places. A recent article in Maine's Kennebec Journal cited the building's unusual ar chitecture and paid tribute to the station's colorful past -- the days when eight passenger trains pulled through the station each day. Those days ended, however, in September of 1960 with a nostalgic last run SLACK AUTO AND ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL OPEN HOUSE to Waterville, Maine. When the station was decommissioned, a local individual pur chased the building for $100 and used it to house one of twelve auto parts outlets, which he subsequently sold to the Andersons in 1972. The Andersons, openly proud of occu pying a corner of Gardiner's history, now display the framed historic register cer tificate in their store. A. Bill Slack is another NAPA Jobber who decided to invite his customers to join him for an Open House to celebrate the open ing of a new Slack Auto Parts store loca tion in Murphy, North Carolina. The pennants and banners hung outside of the new store certainly caught the atten tion of area customers -- not only was B. Welcome banners, an Open House banner and pennants all called attention to the fact that something special was going on at Slack Auto Parts' new store in Murphy, North Carolina. there a steady stream of customer traffic throughout the day of the Open House, but since that time, the store has been enjoy ing month-to-month sales increases. Slack Auto Parts, serviced out of the NAPA Atlanta Distribution Center, consists of 13 stores based out of Gainesville, C. The stream of customers brought in by the special event has continued; the store has en joyed steady sales increases since the Open House. Georgia. Within the thirteen store group are six full-time machine shop operations, in cluding the main shop located in Gainesville. The Slack organization, which was started in 1928, is owned and operated by Bill Slack, who began working at the store for his father in 1956. 11
