Our neighbors across the street have just had that experience so that we have reason to believe that a settlement with |^.at this time will probably have the same effect upon the other claimants as transpired with respect to Bayway. In the latter cases there was a promise that no publicity would attach but it is fair to assume that a man in straightened circumstances could not be placed in possession of substantial funds without a lot of people knowing about it. ^^^Howeve r, I have been thinking along the line that we might agree to pay^J^f in consideration of a general release, a certain man to be deposited'to his account but to be drawn upon only by his wife for a period of, say, three years. The difficulty with an arrangement of this kind is that it is fraught with the same or some of the same dangers as are more or less inseparably connected with a lump sum payment. 1 feel that we should discourage the payment of any substantial amount even in installments as last indicated.The chances are if he gets ahold of a fair sum he will dissipate. But in all events I am naturally more concerned with the unfavorable reaction which may be expected to follow from such settlement with him at this time.
