The a c u t e t o x i c e f f e c t of CB-2151 on microorganisms w a s measured by adding t h e t e s t compound t o f r e s h a c t i v a t e d sludge mixer l i q u o r and monitoring the rate of oxygen d e p l e t i o n i n t h e mixture. Prior t o CS-2151 a d d i t i o n , t h e a c t i v a t e d sludge w a s brought, to n e a r oxygen s a t u r a t i o n by a i r s p a r g i n g . A t 1,000 mg/I CS-2151. had no e f f e c t o n t h e r e s p i r a t i o n r a t e of t h e microorganisms i n t h e t e s t s y s t e m .
T h i s i n d i c a t e s t h e a b s e n c e of an acute t o x i c e f f e c t a t
this concentration.

Introduction
T h i s r e p o r t describes tests performed on CS-2151 t o e v a l u a t e i t s acute t o x i c i t y t o a c t i v a t e d s l u d g e mixed liquor. The! report p r o v i d e s a g r a p h of t h e data g e n e r a t e d i n t h e studly. ( F i g u r e 1)
Methods and Materials
Environmental L a b o r a t o r y r e c e i v e d t h o t e a t sample on 11/4/80. The sample was a l i g h t , y e l l o w l i q u i d . I t was r e p o r t e d t o c o n t a i n 25%
s o l i d s i n water. W. A. S c h e i l performed t h i s work i n a c c o r d a n c e w i t h t h e s t a n d a r d Environmental Laboratory p r o t o c o l ( a t t a c h e d ) .
R e s u l t s and Discussion
The r e s u l t s of t h e s t u d y are shown i n F i g u r e 1. The results show t h a t CS-2151 had no r e t a r d i n g o r s t i m u l a t o r y effect o n t h e oxygen d e p l e t i o n

Based on t h e l o w
T h i s p r o d u c t is used a t a c o n c e n t r a t i o n of 1,400 ppm ( 3 5 0 ppm on a s o l i d s b a s i s ) . The c h e m i c a l is wasted from p l a t i n g b a t h s p r i m a r i l y is drag-out w i t h p a r t s t h a t are s u b s e q u e n t l y r i n s e d . CS-2151 wastes t h a t are sewered from usage would be g r e a t l y d i l u t e d below t h i s 1,400 ppm l e v e l and t h e wastes w o u l d be s t i l l f u r t h e r d i l u t e d i n t h e wastewater
t r e a m e n t system. Thus, w e expect t h e C8-2151 c o n c e n t r a t i o n i n a wastewater t r e a t m e n t s y s t e m w o u l d norma:lly be 2 or more order8 of magnitude lower t h a n t h e 1,000 pprn c o n c e n t r a t i o n found t o have no acute i n h i b i t o r y e f f e c t i n t h i s l a b o r a t o r y test. mese r e s u l t s
suggest t h a t no s i g n i f i c a n t , adverse efltect on a c t i v a t e d sudge v i a b i l i t y is likely.
