IV. TECHNICAL A. PPG At a meeting on Nov. 10 in East Point, Ga., we got further clarification of PPG's needs. Regardless of the effect of oil absorption on Salt Spray Resistance, a low oil absorption is desirable for optimum rheology of the coating. There is no reason to believe that there is any difference between oil absorption of 10 and 13, however. PPG has recently developed data indicating that excess concentrations of Lead and Acetate. Ions in an extract of the stabilizer have a detrimental effect on salt spray. Crystal form may only be a means to this end, rather than an end in itself. CYWI 1-000158 3 IV* TECHNICAL (continued) A. PPG (continued) We will attempt now to reduce the Lead Acetate content with or without overcarbonation. Stamford is looking into processes for Lead Cyanamid. PPG has agreed to take an entire plant batch if we are able to produce material of suitable quality. B. LECTRO 65 and 105 Further analytical data indicate that Lectro 65 may contain a higher proportion of Sulfate than originally cal culated . Work on developing matching stabilizers is awaiting some compounding ingredients on order. C. PANTASOTE - BLACK SPECKS Cyastab 908 contains minute quantities of fine black specks, randomly and widely dispersed. This has never been a problem for any other customer. Pantasote, however, cannot tolerate these specks because of a critical application, Western Electric's 802 compound. The specks appear to be coming from the P & S Dryer. Since 908 does not burn at temperatures seen in the dryer, we believe the specks are caused by material trapped between the plates of "A" section for long periods of time occasion ally breaking loose. The P & S Dryer is scheduled to be down for overhaul in the near future. After this overhaul it will be completely clean between the plates. We propose to start up after this shutdown with 908 to see how long we can run without specks. We believe that the solution to the black speck problem will ultimately be resolved with the same technique used by A/L: selection of the acceptable batches during runs of Lead Phthalate. CYWI 1-000159 4 IV. TECHNICAL (continued) D. TENNECO A blend of Tribase - oiled and Barium Stearate has a 50C VR greater than 800-0 plus Barium Stearate but less than Tribase XL - Oiled. This information would seem to indicate that the composition of Tribase XL-Oiled is not what we be lieved it to be. We will analyze the samples of Tribase - Oiled and Tribase XL - Oiled in an attempt to resolve. E. EXTRUCTOR Final sales brochure has been issued. Shipped 56.00 lbs of 1800 to Flex Products and 40k lbs. of 1800, 1040 and 1918 to Cerock. The Air Pallet Unloading System has been moved into a position to feed the Extructor.
