1. In accordance with reference (a), enclosures (l) and (2) are forwarded for prompt corrective action. Any serious deficiencies requiring immediate corrective action are identified in the report and were reported to cognizant shop or code supervisory personnel at the time of the inspection. To track and account for the correction of deficiencies, annotate the Master Copy of the inspection report located in the Ship Superintendent's waterfront office upon completion of,your action. The Ship Superintendent will follow up on those-deficiencies, notreported as corrected within,flve^(5) working' day$.,^Seven(7} wbrklng^days^from the date of the inspect loathe. 3. SHIP'S FORCE ACTION
a. Garlock gasket material was being used at the following locations to fabricate gaskets without taking precautions for control of asbestos dust. The Ship's Safety Officer stopped gasket making until precautions are taken.

b. Battle lanterns in the FWD Fire Room did not light up when tested. Portable emergency lighting equipment is required by OSHA 1915.52(d) when the temporary lighting is from sources outside the vessel and the only means of illumination.
