Some time ago, NAPA Jobber Cecil Riley decided it was finally time to sell the old pickup truck he has used at Riley Auto Supply in Aitkin, Minnesota for years. But he still had to have a vehicle to drive around town, and for years he'd fancied some of the older MG's. So -- Riley decided to "go creative" and build his own new car! Riley chose "The Car," a kit for building a replica of an early 1950's MG. He then located an old VW chassis and engine and went to work, customizing the vehicle with NAPA parts along the way. Some of his modifications include special Balkamp screws on the dash, special Echlin dash knobs, a Rayloc two-speed wiper motor and a Balkamp defroster. It took Riley 10 months to complete the project, but it was worth it. He now not only has his "dream car," but also a vehicle that draws alot of good promotion for his business -- including a feature article in the local newspaper. When Wally West, son of NAPA Jobber Robert West (co-owner with Eugene Hale of D&M Auto Parts Inc. of Livermore, California) decided to break into boat racing, he wanted to leave nothing to chance. So, Mr. West and Wally, who works for his father at the store, teamed up with Chuck Petty to design and build the boat Wally would use -- a 75-horse-power Evinrude engine Tunnelboat to hit speeds of 80-85 miles per hour. The boat features an NAPA fuel pump, and the exterior was finished using Martin-Senour abrasives and paint. In Wally's first competition with the California Speedboat Association at Clear Lake, the old-timers learned they had better watch out for young West in the years to come. Not only did Wally take first place in his division, but he and his custom boat lapped two other experienced racers to take second place in the marathon. Roger Pollander, manager of First Class Auto Parts in Barre, Vermont, truly has some "first class" customers -- including Tom Pembroke, owner of the Middlesex Fire Equipment Company. Pembroke's company is known for its custom-made fire trucks. All of his hand-built fire engines feature many NAPA parts, and each is finished with MartinSenour acrylic enamel. After all, he has to use only the highest quality products; when a town pays between $60,000 and $120,000 for a customized fire engine, it's expected to last for at least twenty years!
