F.Gcvan and R.Curt reported on the status of the ERDA contract to evaluate in situ performance cf high temperature pipe in sulation. York Research will send progress reports to R. S. Hite , '.7. T. Irv/in and <1.M.Barnhart. 3 The 11 Workshops were discussed. a, Thn Communications Committee is to develop a brochure for contractor use. b. The MCA Technical brochure on heat loss calculations was discussed. c. It was agreed that input data should be included os the ETI printout, d. It was agreed that the "R-ECOII MANUAL" and "R-ECCK REPEATS'1 would not be retained. e. The thickness tables based on the ETI prograa have not been completed. 4. P.Colaiacovo reported: a. A draft of the ETI brochure will be pre sented to the committee for comment. b. press conferences on the ETI are planned; one in l'ew fork City and one in Chicago. An ad program.will follow the press conferences. A press release has been sent out regarding upgrading of thermal insulation. AMa has accepted part of the ETI presentation for use in the PEA seminars. f. A letter to AGA has been drafted relative to using the ETI program. g. J.P.Kern's presentation to MCA on 30 i'arch was discussed. h. The PEA film entitled "Industrial Insulation1' Y/ill be shewn at the next meeting. S.K.Heard mailed in the Government laioon committee report as follows: The Government Relations Committeo of TIMA held r. meeting cn Friday, March 18, 1977 with the following members and guest in attendance; I.K.Mills, CSG, Chairman C.P.Sfcelly, J-M S.K. Heard, Jr., OCF C.W.Almand, USG Gerald T. Fenton, President, Gerald T. Fentcn, (Guest - representing insulation contractors) Inc. The meeting was called to prepare and submit comments cb proposed Naval Facilities Engineering Command (Western i)iv. ) Guide Specification T3-1 5181 ,,f Insulation cf Mechanical Systems." The draft was sent o\*t to industry on 31 Dee. 1976. (We received copy Februarv 1977) After tY/o hours of collective examination and review rf the draft, L.H.Mills volunteered to go through the spec and make comments for the committee because cf numerous errors and needed changes. He also agreed to notify NAVFAC and advise them that TIMA comments v.ould be forthcoming, but would obviously be late. The committee was shown copy of the attached letter cf March 2, 1977 to S.K.Heard to submit to TIMA Commercial/Mechanical and Power/process Committee meetings -March 29, 1977 - Las Vegas. The proposed draft cf KIL-I-22344C, "Insulation, Pipe, Thermal, Fibrous Glass," was discussed and will be presented to TIMA for review and acceptance. If approved, it will be presented to KAVSEC for their a cccptance. The committee has not received the 21 table oi thicknesses for presentation to Corps cl iSngiweers and Navy Ter their guide spec on mechanical systems. The Government Relations Cox^ittee requests the Oommercial/wechanical and Power/Process Committees to consider Washington, D.C. as the location for their next meeting* 6* The next meeting will be held in Washington, D.C., ? Washington, D.C. 20006 Re: TIMA/Commercial, Mechanical Power and Process Dear San: Perhaps you may want to advise TIMA Technical Committee of subject at their next meeting in Las Vegas about Syska and Hennessy studies on energy conservation for U. S. Navy. Their NYC office has prepared two volumes on the subject which are entitled, "Final Analysis and Recommendations Upgrading Mechanical Guide Specifications and Referenced Equipment Specifications for Better Energy Utilization." Contract Number is N00025-75-C-0003. In the area of ther mal insulation, it contains a good comparison of ASHRAE 90-75, TIMA and Federal Construction Guide Specification recommended thicknesses with present Navy thicknesses.
