RECYCLED t.^1 AR226-2624 INS AR226-2624 JULY 2004 PFOA SAMPLING DUPONT CIRCLEVILLE WORKS CIRCLEVILLE, OHIO Date: August 2004 Project No.: 18984003.04005 CORPORATE REMEDIATION GROUP An Alliance between DuPont and URS Diamond Barley Mill Plaza, Building 27 Wilmington, Delaware 19805 July 2004 PFOA Sampling Introduction On July 8,2004, groundwater was sampled from two recovery wells and three production wells at the DuPont Circleville Plant. In addition, two effluent samples were collected, Outfall 602 and Outfall 001. These samples were collected in order to establish baseline perfluorooctanoate ion (PFOA) concentrations for these recovery wells, production wells and outfalls. PFOA Sampling Prior to initiating sampling activities, well and outfall locations were field identified. Figure 1 (attached) shows the locations of the two recovery wells (DB-2 and DB-3), the three production wells (PW-4, PW-5 and PW-6) and the two outfalls (602 and 001) that were sampled. The two recovery wells were operating at the time of sample collection. Therefore, no purging was necessary. Groundwater was collected from the recovery wells using sampling ports that were flushed prior to collecting the samples. Water flushed from the recovery well sampling ports is a hazardous waste due to historic 1,1-DCE concentrations and was treated according to standard hazardous waste disposal protocol by the Circleville Plant. The three production wells were also operating at the time of sample collection. Again, no purging was necessary. Groundwater was collected from the production wells using sampling ports that were flushed for a few minutes prior to collecting the samples. A duplicate sample was collected from production well PW-6. Outfalls 602 and 001 are ditches. Effluent from these outfalls was collected using a high density polyethylene, long handled dipper. The dipper used for effluent sampling activities was pre-cleaned prior to collecting the effluent sample from outfall 602 and was decontaminated prior to sampling outfall 001 using standard protocol for PFOA sampling activities. Table 1 (attached) provides PFOA analytical results for the two recovery wells, the three production wells and the two outfalls that were sampled.
