The choice for pressure-driven MF was made based on previous experience in another plant using brackish surface water as well. The membranes proved to be robust to fouling, exhibit good SS removal prior to RO and showed long lifetimes of >8yr. In addition, water recovery of +/- 90% can be achieved, which is important to safe on raw water intake in a water scarce region such as Flanders.
