Subcommittee on High-Build Coating Systems To Meet June 27 in Los Angeles Philadelphia, June 14 -- The newly combined Subcommittee DOl.47 on High Build Coatings Systems (formerly DOl.47 on Seamless Floor Coatings and DOl.48 on Tile-Like Coatings) of the American Society for Testing and Materials will meet in Los Angeles at the Biltmore Hotel June 27. Subcommittee DOl.47.02 on Appear ance Factors will meet at 10 a.m. ac cording to Nymer Christiansen, chair man. Subcommittee DO1.47.04 on Physical Properties, chaired by Ed Hinden, will meet at 11 am.; the subcommittee as a whole with Dick Bieneman as chair man will meet at 4 p.m. At the January meeting in Dallas, Mr. Christiansen reported that coopera tive testing on representative urethane, epoxy and polyester high-build coat ings systems will be conducted for stain resistance. An attempt will be made to classify ease of stain removal as well as degree of staining. Test materials and methods will be consistent with Federal specifications TT-C-001224-27 and 001685, he said. Mr. Hinden reported on a new device for determining abrasion resistance on undulating as well as smooth surfaces. Cooperative testing will be initiated to assess the merit of the method, he said. The scope of the newly combined subcommittee was explained as follows: "To develop test methods, recommended practices and specifications for on-site coating systems for walls, floors and ceilings which are subjected to greater than normal potential damage by abra sion, impact, chemicals, soiling or de liberate abuse. "The types of systems of primary concern are often referred to as `Tile- Like Coatings' and `Seamless Floor Coatings.' Such systems often involve more than one type of coating mate rial and/or special decorative media, such as colored fillers, granules, stones chips or plastic flakes. They are usually based on in situ chemically-cured res inous matrices. Film thickness of the total lay-up is greater than conven tional paints. "Paints and varnishes applied in thin films are excluded, except when they constitute an integral part of such higher-build, higher-performance sys tems. Heavily-filled, acid-resistant, ce mentitious floor surfacing materials are excluded." Additional task groups will be acti vated when more active members and participation are achieved, according to Chairman Bieneman. N.E. Golf Outing Plans Finalized Barrington, R.I., June 13 -- John Hardy and Len Doppler, co-chairmen of the New England Society for Paint Technology's Annual Golf Outing, have announced the final arrangements. The event will be held Friday, June 23 at the Andover Country Club. There will be golf, horseshoes, darts and a putting contest.
