Lane June 15, 1976 Medical Department 4 Industrial Hygiene Survey BUSINESS CONFIDENTIAL Dear Mr. Larrison: The following is the report of my industrial hygiene survey at King City, June 9, 197 6. As you will recall, we discussed the general findings prior to my departure on that date. I reviewed the environmental dust evaluation program with Mr. Madlangbayan giving particular attention to questions that might arise concerning the techniques employed. I also commended him (and you) on the efficient manner with which both the analytical work and the reporting of results are accomplished. I believe we are defining the work environment about as well as can be expected. I discussed with you the program under consideration for meeting the new fiber limit (2 fibers/cc of air) that becomes effective July 1, 1976. This includes upgrading exhaust control systems in the two bagging areas, installation of a central vacuum system for better clean-up of floors, etc,, more effective use of sprinklers in control of dust from ore pile and several innovations in material handling to reduce dust loss./j Q Q ^ 'C UCC 013824 Mr. F. Needless to say these are considerably more drastic than those presently in progress and there's no assurance that they would be effective enough. During this visit I also collected area air samples in the resin grade bagging area, the shifters office, and the main office as a matter of substantiating the results we have found in the past. Findings are tabulated below. As you will note, they are in general agreement with Mr. Madlangbayan's findings for personal sampling for individual exposures to fibers. Darrison, Jr. -3- June 15, 1976 It was somewhat surpising to find the fiber count for the shifters office to be as high as shown and implies that this area would require special attention if the limit is dropped to 0. 5 fibers/cc. The findings for the resin grade area are similar to those found at other times. The main office work environment appeared to be adequate for present or proposed requirements. As I explained to you, the six-month interval until my next visit would make December the time for my being in King City again.
