AI-9 Appearance Clear Yellow Slightly turbid Yellow-slight greenish cast Color, NPA 2.0 max 1.75 Softening point 46-52C 46.0C The acetone solubility test which has never been used for 5442 showed heavy turbidity. This Indicates the presence of highly chlorinated biphenyls. Since this particular 5442 lot was produced in the Liquid Aroclor equipment in March 1967, it apparently was contaminated with a small amount of Aroclor 1260 (the previous product) which chlorinated further to Aroclor 1268. Aroclor 1268 is known to be insoluble in Acetone. Perhaps the Acetone solubility test should be instituted as a routine test on 5442 as it is on 5460. The greenish cast to the product color is a typical variation and is similar to that experienced occasionally on 5460. I hope this provides you with the additional information needed. H. L.
