Mlttnacht, Ethyl Gasoline Corp., 25 Broadway, 'lew York City, Dear Mr, Mlttnacht: In regard to your letter of October 23 concerning plant operations at the Detroit Steel Barrel Company, Dr, Crudgington Inspected this plant last week and examined the men who had been doing the work, Ke found that none of these men showed any symptoms of acute lead intoxication; that their complaints were chiefly respiratory and of short duration. However, be cause of the possibility of volatilization of any lead compounds which may be present In these drums, I think there is a possible hazard from this source, especially In view of a report which was published in an Industrial journal concerning acute lead poisoning occurring in a similar manner. We feel that it is advisable to make certain recommendations to the management, and they are as follows: (1) That all work be done in the open air* (2) That the men wear Burrell respirators, and also jumpers which are to be laundered after use, (3) That the men take precautions in washing following their work, '' ' I have written to Mr. Algers, as per the enclosed copy, submitting these recommendations, . In checking through our records we find that Mr. Edward Lobus, Motor Meter Company Research Laboratory, has failed to send any specimens of faeces or urine as he agreed to do.
