A s you know liquid filled Transformers that are required to be fire resistant utilize askarels manufactured by Monsanto Chemical Co. as a cooling and insulating liquid. We call our brand of Askarel "Inerteen'' and we have shipped thousands of transformers filled with Inerteen and will continue to do so until a better fireproof liquid is available.
Monsanto recently notified all their customers that special precautions are necessary when disposing of used, scrap Inerteen and Inerteen soaked insulating materials, rags, etc. Seems the chlorinated material is insoluble in water, but soluble in fat. It is extremely persistent in our environment and thereby harmful to some wildlife.
Ail maiitui cugiiieeia ami Electric Service engineers nave been sent instructions on what to do about the problem, so if your customers ask about the problem of disposition of Inerteen, get your Engineering Rep. to explain the remedy to them.
