NEW RESEARCH FOUNDATION *" The Asbestosis Research Council has established an Asbestosis Research Council Foundation within the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Edinburgh by arrangement with the National Coal Board. , Its intention is that research, which has so far been conducted at various universities, should increasingly be concentrated at the Institute so that the closer contact made possible between the'research workers in different disciplines will lead to an even more effective use of the Council*.s resources. The Asbestosis Research Council was set up in 1957 with funds provided by three major U.K. companies engaged in the manufacture of asbestos pr^pucts, in order to undertake a programme of rescJtch into a the causation and prevention of asbestos-associated disease. Besides sponsoring medical and biological research it has concerned itself with dust measurement, prevention and control and the provision of an advisory service in these fields.
