We discussed Asbestos Free calcium silicate at our sunnybrook
Meeting. Since that time, namely this morning, 1 had a call
from George Lang, who is the assistant to Roy Allen in
Standards and Testing Engineering for duPont. George asked
me point blank what we were co;I^g: 'as. far*S an Asbestos Free
Calcium Silicate is concerned. 1 assured him that we were working on one currently, and I was not in a position to say how close to market it was. He stated, and X quo*-a, "This thing is coming on us like a herd of buffalo. If I were you I would exert all possible effort." He .jrther stated that this axe could fall at any time and would definitely effect all high temp insulation lines.
He asked if we were aware that
? Carey had an Insult
ation product that is Asbestos free. X told him that we
are aware, but we question its structural integrity and
are testing it ourselves.
X further assured George that we are trying to give them a new standard product with proper flexural and structural
strength and would do so as soon as it would be feasible.
To further confirm my conversation with you this date, Roy Allen and Georg* Lang along with E. C. Jones of
Purchasing and possibly A. o. McAlister of the Specificetion
and Contract Division should visit Granville as soon as
possible. This visit has been referred to for quite a
while and X think we should plan it for soma time during the week of January 19th

Its purpose is as follows:
1. To assure them we are working on an Asbestos Free Product*
2. To show them what we are doing with roof insulation and to get back in their standards* Note - ve have been out for 10 years.
3. Give them a visual concept of what we are doing with air handling products, specifically duct systems*
4. Run, if possible, a simulated or actual tunnel flame spread test for them. They are particularly interested in this.
5. Generally thank them for the new business we are receiving on the New Construction Contract and to assure them that we want to maintain a close work ing relationship with them.

1 know that Fos Wilson and Roy Allen are old friends and serve on a mutual committee with ASTM. I would' like to hear from Fos if he Is in agreement with the above. X also understand the potential use for glass
reinforcement if this were done at our Berlin Plant would be an estimated $.000 pounds per day, which
is a heck of a lot of string!
