Sayles CMP I Dear Mr. Sayles: ' h I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your hospitality and cover the problem that you have with some gasket materials. As mentioned in our con versation back on December 17, 1984, the material that you returned to us was the Utex 1101 which we manu facture for them. We ran numerous tests on this material, and the results are exactly as we call out in our literature covering this material. I am attaching a copy of the test results of that material. As we discussed, the problem is the fact that we do not have a piece of the material that actually failed. This leaves a lot of unanswered questions not having this material. Question Number One is whether or not it is some other manufacturer. Like I say, without the original piece of material that failed, there is not much more that we can do than we have at the present time. I believe that your man, Tony Hanzlick, should be able to get this material from his customer so that we can run some tests and evaluate it. You keep mentioning the flexibility or the softness of the material,,and that the two materials do not feel exactly alike. This is partially true. The Melrath 150 seems to have a little more flexibility just from the bending, but this does-nob-indicate that it is a better sealing material. ,The little bit of difference in the flexibility is not of major concern. Here again/ ft is a matter if we had the original material sample that failed, we could answer more of these questions. (con't Page 21 ........... According to Utex, their customer is having trouble sealing a natural gas using our material.
