BECK VENtiLATI ON MEASUREMENTS IN CARPENTER SHOP The spray paint booth in the Paint shop had a ventilation check on March 7 using the Alnor Thermo Anemometer, Type 8500. The doors to the paint shop were closedj both booth doors were open with the fan onj and nine measurements were made across the face of the booth. The average velocity across the face was 128.9 feet per minute (fpm). The Du Pont Engineering Standard requires an average velocity of at least 100 fpm. The elephant trunk exhaust ventilation in the welding booth was also measured. Large holes in the ceiling around the base of the trunk had been covered since the last measurement was taken on January 18, 1983. The face velocity was greater or equal to 2000 fpm; the velocity may have been greater, but meter only reads up to 2000 fpm. Because such a high velocity exhaust placed near welding disrupts the arcj a sloped cone is recommend ed for lowering the velocity yet increasing the area of. exhaust. Also, good general room ventilation is important in this situation. DUP 0814691 CMB: sgd "SAFETY IS MY RESPONSIBILITY" DU 009973
