Each year the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) sponsors an auto mechanics contest for vocational students across the coun try. The contest assesses a student's skills in 12 areas. Part of the U.S. Skill Olympics, the auto mechanics contest is strongly supported by NAPA and other leaders of the automotive and aftermarket industries.
The contest tests students on their mechanical
skills in areas such as fuel and emission systems, engine and chassis electrical diagnosis, align ment inspections and adjustments of all types. Working against the clock and one another, stu dents attempt to prove their expertise in auto mechanics and other occupational fields. Safe ty practices and procedures are also judged and make up a considerable portion of a student's final score.
George Mitchell, Director of Sales Promo tion and NAPA's representative to VICA. says the program "is an excellent way for NAPA to demonstrate its commitment to our traditional market. These students arc the mechanics and dealers of the future and by showing our belief and support in them now. we'll have them as cus tomers when they begin their careers."

Rain, Sleet or Hurricane . . . NAPA Jobber Continues On
Not even the fury of a hurricane can stop a NAPA Jobber from continuing on with business. When Hurricane Elena ravaged the gulf coast this past Labor Day weekend it also destroyed Standard Parts. Inc. in Moss Point, MS (owned by Greg Baggett and serviced by the New Orleans DC.).
But within a week of the disaster. Standard Parts was back in business. Thanks to a lot of quick action and hard work by the New Orleans D.C. personnel and numerous factory represen tatives Standard Parts was relocated to a new store just 2 blocks from the destroyed one.
This just goes to show that not even a hur ricane can break up the teamwork and dedica tion of the NAPA system.
Darryl Dunlap, Marketing Managerfor Motor Parts Co. in Paris, TN (Serviced by the Memphis D.C.), was recently honoredfor 25 years with the company. Dunlap is shown receiving his awardfrom Robbins Mitchell, owner of Motor Parts Co.
