LLA 000024 Asbestos Monitoring In response to several inquiries from operating telephone companies, Mr Schreibeis researched the availabilicy of direct reading instruments that might be used to perform basic screening for asbescos exposures. Commercial models of respirable dusc counters have been available tor some time, but these instruments would not provide a reading of fibers present in the air. A new instrument has recently been marketed that provides a direct readout of fibers, however, it does not distinguish asbestos fibers from other fibers, nor is it approved by NIOSH at the present time. does not appear that this instrument would be of sufficient value at present to justify its purchase price of approximately 510,000.
