The Na tional Safety Council is a non-governmental, not for pro fit, public service organization that distributes informa tion on the causes of accidents and ways to prevent them. Over 10,000 employer organizations --encompassing 40,000 plants and operating locations -- are members, rely ing on the Council for the facts, ideas, and training pro grams and materials for their accident prevention programs. WHO CAN BECOME A MEMBER? Employer member ship is intended for manufacturers, mercantile organiza tions, utilities, trade and service organizations, railroads, motor fleets, airlines, marine fleets, transit lines, state and local government agencies and other organizations in terested in providing accident prevention programs for their employees. HOW DOES MEMBERSHIP WORK? Annual dues are based on the number of full time employees (including of fice, professional, sales, and drivers), see Table 1. Fifteen (15) per cent of annual dues are returned to members in the form of accident prevention materials. Please see Table 1 for an explanation of Service Credit. To assure that every member receives basic Council materials it is recommended that you purchase a "Safety Service" for yourself, as well as others in your organiza tion (see Table 2). In addition to materiafs for the safety programs, member ship also provides many services which are helpful in plan ning and implementing organizational accident prevention programs. See Table 5. You will receive ac cident prevention materials shortly and also receive letters from Council staff about phases of our operations in which you may be especially interested.
