In response to the first Board meeting, last August, the Board has been completed by nominating seven additional members (list attached). They have accepted the nomination, and to expedite our efforts (an well as to Limit the number of Board meetings) Jane will be in couch with you for a phone ballot next week. Upon your approval, the nominated members will be asked to attend the next Board meeting. I hope this procedure is acceptable to you. The Institute accomplishes these purposes through research and education, in collaboration with other elements of the labor movement and the scientific community, as an independent, not-for pro* fit, tax*cxempt organization. To prevent exposure to hazards that are factors of disease and injury, to intervene in the process that results in such effects, and encourage the de velopment of effective treatment of diseased and injured workers and their fam ilies, the Institute accepts, administers and coordinates resources from the labor movement, government and private sector organizations. In collaboration with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, the Institute's initial project will assist workers who have a high risk of cancer because of past exposure to cancer-causing agents such as beta- Naphthylamine and asbestos. Scientific Advisory Committee .7 To ensure the utmost scientific quality in its programs of research and development, WISH is establishing a Scientific Advisory Committee t evaluate the design and execution of programs. Members of the Scientific Advisory Coir, mittee will include outstanding scientists in the fields of occupational and envir oomental health and medicine, community medicine, and labor and health edu cation. Professor Irving J, Selikoff, Director of the Environmental Sciences Laboratory, Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, has accepted to serve as chairman of this committee. Other leading scientists will be appointe in the near future. C. in their building at 1126 - 16th Street, N.W., Room 100, to be held in Carey Board Room, 7th floor , beginning at 10 A.M. I told her you were in negotiations and that in all probability you would be unable to attend.
