ACUTE TOXICITY TO AQUATIC INVERTEBRATES (DAPHNIA MAGNA)
IesTsuestan 00c 000E 00
Identity: A mixture containing perfluorooctanesulfonate, which may also be
referred to as PFOS, FC-95, or as a component of FX-3103. (1Octanesulfonic acid) (CAS # 2795-39-3).
Remarks: The 3M production lot number was not noted. Thetestsample
is FX-3103, 3%. Current information indicates it is a mixture of 0.96%PFOS,
20% diethylene glycol butyl ether, 50.56% water, 15% ethylene glycol, 4.32% sodium octyl sulfate, 6.0% polyoxyethylene monooctylphenyl ether, 2.5%
propane sultone foamer, 0.5% sodium nitrate, 0.06% sodium lauryl sulfate,
and 0.1% benzotriazole.

The following summary applies to a mixture with incompletely characterized concentrationsof impurities. Data may not accurately
reflect the toxicity of the fluorochemical component of the test sample.
METHOD:
Method: Not given. Type: Static acute
GLP: No
Year completed: 1985 Species: Daphnia magna Supplier: In-house cultures. Originally obtained from U.S. EPA-ERL,
MN.
Analytical monitoring: Temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen. Exposure period: 48-hours Test organism age: <24 hours old Statistical methods: ECs values calculated using logistic regression methods (probit analysis).
Test conditions: Dilution water: Carbon-filtered well water.
Dilution water chemistry: Not given.
Duluth,
Lighting: Not given.
Stock and test solution preparation: A primary stock solution was prepared by dissolving 1000 mgoftest substance in 500 mL water. Exposure
concentrations were prepared by additionofstock solution to each vessel.
Exposure vessels: 250 mL glass beakers containing 200 mL exposure ~~ solution at adep oft6chm. Number of replicates: 2 Number of daphnids per replicate: 10
Number of concentrations: five plus a blank control
Water chemistry during the study:
002968
pH range (048 hours): 87..18-88..12 ((c1o0n0tr0olmge/xLpoesxuproes)ure)
Temperature range (048 hours): 22 C Dissolved oxygen range (0-48 hours):
8.99.3 mg (control exposure)
7.0-9.3 mg/L (1000mg/L exposure)
RESULTS
Nominal concentrations: Blank control, 100, 180, 320, 560, and 1000 mg/L. Element values: 48-hour ECs = >1000 mgiL
Element values based on nominal concentrations.
Remarks: Testing was conducted on a mixture as described in the Test t`hSeubfsltuaonrcoechreRmmiacarlksprfoieplodr.tiTohnealvoanleu.es reported apply to that mixture and not
CONCLUSIONS
The test substance 48-hour ECso was determined to be >1000 mg/L.
