WHEELER We are glad to see the appointment of Alf Vodden and Don Cameron as clearing points and major sources of.contact for Europe on the PCB problem issue. Prom our experiences over here, we have found that this saves many man hours and avoids considerable confusion, and improves communications to the outside by having one or two key people. I would also suggest that you involve Public Relations as one of your key contacts as we have done in the States. For the Newport Business Group meeting coming up shortly, I would like to convey the following information: . 1. We are presenting to the Corporate Development Committee on November 17, the worldwide status of the PCB problem as well as the effect this has on our customers, the environment, and Monsanto as well as other PCB producers. 2. We are writing up a suggested plan of action for their approval which will have several check points out in time -- say at quarterly review periods-- for at least the next year. 3. We will keep you advised of the presentation to CDC as well as the outcome of this meeting. Because many of our Corporate executives have become interested and concerned about the PCB problems, we recently prepared an Executive Summary along with the latest statement which we issue when we are queried by the Press or other individuals. Attached is this position statement as well as the Executive Summary. We would suggest that you also follow the same policy and issue the statement only upon specific request. It is possible, of course, that some specific situation may come up where you are forced to issue a total Public Relations state ment, in which case we suggest you use the attached statement. Some modification may be needed to cover the Newport Plant and I am sure that you will handle this appropriately.
