Dear Dr* Kehoe:
Thank you for your careful review of our recent report and for the criticisms, comments, and compliments which you took the time to enumerate, I was glad that the over-all con tent met with your approval, and surprised that so few points required changes0
It was particularly fortunate for us that you mentioned the two overlooked references, which support so well our statements that the hygienic aspects had been studied in de tail and found to be acceptable. We tried to become familiar with all of the prior work while we worked on this program, but apparently there are many publications which we missed,
I*ve heard of no new policy decisions as yet as to our publication of the report, but if the decision remains to go ahead I 'll incorporate all of your suggestions in the final form.
In regard to your interest in reducing lead output, we do have some exploratory tests under way. So far these con sist of a comparison between two identical cars as to lead retention, one car having a standard exhaust system and the other having an additional spark-arrestor type muffler at the end of the system.
Sincerely yours,
