I am very anxious to inaugurate a pulmonary
function screening practice in our p l a n t s ,h o p e f u l l y starring
where it is most likely to be most rewar ding--atf^hS"Thambers
works. A recent Seminar at Ohio State University further
convinces me of the increasing need and value of such a policy.

, Ic is lively that, in the future, the institution
of this practice might bring the Company rewards in both the
prevention of seme pulmonary diseases, the alleviation of
others, and distinct medico-legal advantages as well. This
practice might be likened to the routine chest x-rays and
hearing studies inaugurated in previous years, the rewards of
which were and still are being reaped. Dr. Stoops is already
working on this problem, and I am sure he and you have already
discussed this. It will be particularly important in the future
-or us to do these on our pre-employment examinations. Accu-acv speed, ana simplicity will all be required.
Also, I would like to ask you to review, if you
can, any possible prior exposure of employees in your plant to
asbestos, whether or not it is being handled in your plant now
with a breakdown of exposure among our employees versus those *
of outside contractors, and how it is being handled. help, let me know.
