Asbestosis, by definition, is pulmonary fibrosis pro duced by the inhalation of asbestos fibers, just as silicosis is produced by the inhalation of silica, anthracosis by the inhala tion of coal, and so on. 1/ The first report of asbestosis came in 1906, although some four years earlier asbestos was included by the Inspector of Factories in England in the list of dusts known to be injurious 2/ to man.
