The original write-up by Barnhart disclosed the Orchem two phase liquid separation hut the case as filed was limited to the solid phase separation. However. Orchem has stated that their operation is protected by the disclosures of the Cross case (how U*S. 2,365.464) in which one example and a broad statement disclose the addition of $5-95* H2SO4 to the reaction medium which may be dichlorobensene or saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons followed by physical separation of the two liquid layers. The patented process then cools the mixture to isolate the crystalline CPC sulfate. However, other patents show drowning of a solution of CPC sulfate. It is our conclusion that the process as used is not specifically covered by the claims of any patent or appli cation but that it is disclosed in sufficient detail by the Cross patent to prevent any coverage at this time especially in the light of other patents on acid pasting processes.
