The industrial hygiene literature catalog ing has been curtailed at least temporarily. The reviewing of literature has been distri buted. among the medical and laboratory staffs of the Division, with the cataloging baingf^ done by the Library. Miss Reilly received a grade promotion and has taken pver "the heayy~r responsibility < correspondence along with other functions in connection with the Indus trial Hygiene Laboratory. In addition to this she has had the. tedious task of following", through two publications--the-Physical Examination booklet, and the_Eye booklet. Tha. , - --j-- latter one is not yet off the press. Av ' as . ,?kr' . v- -''Vr H r- MET-631 -2 - Field Force Contacts ' During the year Managers and Agents were visited in the following cities: Boston, Trenton, New Brunswick, Newark, Baltimore, Harrisburg, New Britain, Conn., and Chicago, 111. On sor.e of these visits addresses were given to local service clubs. Topics discussed included a review of health work of the Company on its 35th Anniversary, a discussion of the national health picture after three years of war and the role of the Agent in the Company's health work. More than 15,000 miles were traveled during the year in connection with these visits and other Company and professional business. School Health Activities Several trips to Albany for one-and two-day meetings were made in serving as consultant for the State Education Department in its study of the school health program in New York State. In connection with this, several upstate school districts were visited in June to observe school health procedures in rural and small town communities. Served as Chairman of the School Physicians Section of the American Association. r. of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and participated in its.annual meeting in' New zc>rk City in April, 1944* Served as Secretary of the School Health Section of the American Public Health Association, organized the meetings fer the Section for its October meeting, and spoke on the educational qualifications of the school physician at this annual meeting. In connection with the revision of Dr. Frederick Roger's booklet on "What Every Teacher Should Know" many suggestions were given and incorporated. Considerable time was given during the year to supervising and assisting with the development of the School Bureau's film strip on teacher observations. Served as Chairman on several subcommittees of the New York City Board of Educa tion's Committee studying the school health program. Spoke on health education at the annual meeting of the Nassau County Tuberculosis and Health Association, May 23rd. Spoke on the School Physician's Role in the School Health Program at the.annual meeting of the NOPHH in Buffalo in June. ' " .. _ m Spoke to the Wartime Conference of School Education in Hartford, Conn., in February. -r,-' Developed and demonstrated the Company's Rheumatic Fever Exhibit at the AMA meeting in June. Worked up in connection with this a series oi daily SlinicAl conferences on rheumatic fever, where authorities on the disease in this country and in Canada parti cipated. Took part in a symposium on rheumatic fever at the Annual Meeting of -the American Academy of Pediatrics in St.' Louis--title of speech, "Mobilization Against Rheumatic Fever--C------------- -- ---------------- -3- i Named by theAPHA as^delegate of that organization at the Rheimatic Fever Council. Participated in meetingsTield to organize this Council. Served as a~nieinbeif'bf the American Academy of Pediatrics on this Committee. SuDervised the production of the Rheumatic _vever filmstrio end worked closely r.'ith the Bureau of Social Agencies in developing promotional plShs for the strip. Ctiild Health Served on the Advisory Committee of the Children'a Bureau, thereby keeping in close touch with the Emergency Maternal Care Program for the wives and infants of Servicemen, which affects the interests of so many of our policyholders. Also through service on this Committee I am able to participate in the planninf for future child health programs in this country. Nursing Reviewed the prepayment plan and presented a statement on this at the Nursing Advisory Committee meeting. Spoke to the Territorial Supervisors on recent advances in therapeutics and worked closely with executives in the Nursing Bureau on many problems involving cost statements, personnel, and automobiles. Served on the NOPHN Cost Analyses Committee. Outside Activities Served on a number of professional committees in connection with United China Relief and have had some part in securing funds for the development of a child health program in China. During the year I have also had a number of contacts with Latin-American visitors and have had an opportunity to discuss the health and welfare work of the Company with them.
