Mancias \ Insulation on #1 Boiler The following samples of insulation on the fire tube end of the boiler were taken by me on April 22nd for asbestos determination by Scanning Election Microscopy and Energy Dis persive X-Ray Analysis (insulation from the fire tube area had been removed from the boiler and three different types of materials were identified): Sample 29941-1-1 Sample 29941-1-2 Sample 29941-1-3 square block of insulation rectangular block of insulation loose patching material The following samples of insulation on the fire box end _ of the boiler were delivered to me on April 25th for the same analytical treatment (insulation was intact on the boiler when the samples were taken): Sample Sample Sample Sample 29941-1-4 middle 29941-1-5 " 29941-1-6 " 29941-1-7 " of " " " the north side " underside " south side " topside The analytical results reported by Paul Drake were negative - no asbestos - for all of the samples. There was a notation that a small amount of magnesium, a component of asbestos, was present in sample 29941-1-2. However, no fibers with the characteristics of asbestos fibers were found. Before the insulation was removed from the boiler, F. A. Hernandez and R. Mendez (Arthur Bros, employee) were provided with respirators and instructed to take showers immediately after work and wash their work cloths separately from other laundry. dsc cc: , W.
