(conoco) Interoffice Communication To From Safety Directors Tom Grumbles Date November 22, 1982 Subject MEDICAL TESTING FOR 1983 Recently, a meeting was held with the Medical Department, Operations personnel and Bob Demsey of Health Examinetics to discuss 1983 testing programs. There will be some changes for next year's programs. These are summarized below. 1. "Hands-on" exams in Ponca City and Lake Charles will be conducted by the clinic physicians in those locations. If necessary, a contract physician or another Conoco physician will be brought in to assist in this program. There will be no backcharge for this service at these locations. At other plant locations the Medical Department will obtain a contract physician for the exams. At these locations a Conoco doctor will be on-site during the exams for employee consultation. HEI will only be used as a back-up to obtain examining physicians. 2. HEI has been asked to tighten-up the waiver portions of the program. Van technicians will be instructed as to the importance of obtaining signed waivers from employees refusing portions of the testing protocol. 3. Dr. Drumwright has been assigned to act as the single contact point for all HEI medical related questions. Although this is no different than the past for Chemicals, all questions regarding medical pro cedures, protocols, records, etc., should be directed to Dr. Drumwright. 4. In the past, x-rays taken on the van have been read by HEI Radio logists in New York. This created a problem when comparison with previous x-rays was necessary and caused repeat x-rays in some cases. To try and improve this situation, the Medical Department has contracted with a radiology group to read the x-rays in Ponca City. The cost to read the x-rays will be reduced from the HEI cost per exam. However, the Medical Department will backcharge the plants for the contracted service. The exact amounts are not worked out yet. They will be sent to you as soon as I know. 5. For those plants involved in Interm testing these procedures and protocol will be formalized with HEI to assure proper communication as to protocols, procedures, and costs.
