I7li East 122nd Street, New York City, called today to request a iSTeiTro^is stating that gasoline supplied by Colonial Beacon Oil Company contains lead. He is trying to prove his past illness was an occupational disease so he can collect workman' s compensation. Vie have briefly discussed this case With Hr. Locker and Dr. Beyer over the phone. His sbary is as follows: He was working for Riverdale Garage, 230th Street h Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, Her/ York, when he slipped and fell into gasoline on the floor. This incident occurred on October 10th, 19hS> and he became ill within about ten minutes after his fall. Re was eating a sandwich at the tine aria although he wil not make a positive claim that the sandwich got in the gasoline and he ate it, he thinks it possible and claims Dr. 3. J. Sanger of the Presbyterian.- Hospital, H. Y. C. diagnosed his illness as lead, poisoning. At the time of the accident he says tiie water was reported to be polluted and warning had been issued that it should be boHe before using. His personal physician on the case from the start was Dr. I. J. Lstrin, 3135 LieKalb Avenue, Bronx, N. Y. Several days after the accident he developed jaundice and his doctor sent him to the Presbyterian Hospital. X-rays were taken and Dr. Hanger, a specialist at the r-ospital, was consulted. He claims that some uoetor(or doctors) from the Mayo Clinic also examined him. Hr. m m p c l a i r a s that the referee hearing the case has told him that he cannot award compensation on the basis of an occupational disease unless he has a ten: statement supporting his claim that there was lead in the gasoline. Hr. teafled on Colonial Beacon for such a letter. They referred him to Standard Oil at 26 Broadway, who in turn sent him to us. The case is V/orknan's Compensation No. Ii7002602. The Zurich Insurance Company who are also involved, examined Hr. 5, I9I4.7 .
