803. Swapping Chlorinator On One Ton Cylinders
1.0 Objective: 1.1 To standardize the procedure for swapping the chlorinator on the one ton chlorine cylinders.
2.0 Responsibility: 2.1 It is the responsibility of the operations supervisor and senior operations specialist to ensure that this procedure is fully complied with.
2.2 It is the responsibility of the senior operations specialist and operations specialist to ensure that this procedure is executed in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
3.0 Safety notations: 3.1 Rubber gloves are required to perform this task. A chlorine respirator should be on
hand.
4.0 Special notations: 4.1 When a cylinder is empty the indicator will show red - no chlorine and the float will not
show a flow. If the ejector is not operating properly, it will not show any flow.
4.2 You can check the ejector by closing the valve on the cylinder and disconnecting the tube going to the ejector and feeling for a vacuum with your finger on the end of the
tubing.
5.0 Removing Chlorinator From Empty Cylinder: 5.1 Turn valve steam clockwise to close cylinder valve.
5.2 . Allow float on flow meter to drop to zero. Indicator on front of chlorinator should show red indicating no chlorine.
5.3 Wait approximately one minute. Float should remain at zero. If float does not drop to zero or flutters, recheck the valve to make sure it is closed.

5.4 Loosen chlorinator yoke screw to remove chlorinator for valve.
5.5 Remove old gasket and make sure surface is clean on chlorinator.
6.0 Installing Chlorinator On A Full Cylinder: 6.1 Make sure the full cylinder is positioned properly with the valves in the vertical position, one valve on top of the other.
6.2 Inspect and clean valve surface and install a new gasket.
6.3 Position chlorinator on the upper valve of the new cylinder and tighten yoke screw. Be careful not to over tighten.
6.4 Plug in heater and let it run for five minutes before opening cylinder valve.
6.5 Crack open cylinder valve and then close it off and check for leaks.
6.6 If you find any leaks repeat steps 153.6.2 and 153.6.6 and correct any leaks.
7.0 Putting New Cylinder In Service: 7.1 Open valve slowly approximately 1/4 turn only.
7.2 Leave wrench on valve stem.
7.3 Set chlorinator to desired flow rate.
