It hat been several months since I have updated you on the Epidemio logy Study presently being conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Until this past week there was not much to report in the way of news thus far in 1980. Last week, accompanied by some UCC Corporate medical personnel, I attended a meeting in Washington, D. C. Present at this session were both NIOSH and OSHA representatives. We received from NIOSH an update on the status of the study as well as discussing what yet remains to be done. It was agreed that a case control study should be initiated using a random sample of both active and former employees. The records of the employees randomly selected will be checked as to specific depart ments in which they are (or have) worked, chemical processes to which they may have been exposed, etc. This process will take several months with a tentative start date of mid-March. During the meeting it was also evident from the data that no new information had been uncovered which would link the incidences of pri mary brain tumors to any specific chemical or process.
