H. J. WHITSON VICK MUIOCNT Na t io n a l Le a d Co mp a n y III BROADWAY Ne w Yo r k , N.Y 10006 t. 8 December 1969 Mr. E.R. Rowley Chairman National Lead Company Building Dear Mr. Rowley: Confirming our conversation, the Lead Industries Association will ask us for a contribution for 1970 of approximately $33, 000. This is $14,000 more than 1969. This increased contribution is indicated to be in the interests of an increased budget item for the Health and Safety Public Relations program of $123,000 for the year. The items to be covered by this fund are: 1 Public Relations work $48,000 2 Contributions to medical work - NYC Epidemiological study $25, 000 3 Publication - Facts about Lead and Pediatrics " $15,000 4 Publication "Childhood Lead Medicine" $10,000 5 KVltoring Abstracts $10, 000 0 n>UD Du Licit $15,000 $123,000 APPROVED BY: EXECUTIVE eOMWITTEt DEC 16 I960 Sr OO 0 t<tl 0 This increase is brought about by the fact that in 1970 we as manufacturers will be assessed 4/ton of lead used for their general funds and 5/ton of lead used for the Health and Safety program. This compares with 5<?/ton for general funds only in 1969. I believe this program is a sound and necessary one for 1970 and I recommend that we offer to pay the association $25,000, with strong reservations about going beyond $20,000 in 1971. A Yours very tatily// / HJW.-GDB H. J. itson
