DC 21.1513 April 14, 2025 The Honorable Sean Duffy Secretary US Department of Transportation 1200 New Jersey Ave, SE Washington, DC 20590 Secretary Duffy, I am inquiring about the status of the $500 million Large Bridge Project grant provided by the Federal Highway Administration for the 1-83 South Bridge. The funding for this project has been on hold for the past two months causing delays to this important project in the district that I represent. I would like to know the status of this grant and request the prompt distribution of the funds in question. The I-83 South Bridge connects Dauphin and Cumberland Counties and sees significant passenger and truck traffic every day. This critical connection in my District is necessary to facilitate both local travel as well as for interstate commerce. Unfortunately, the "poor" condition of the I-83 South Bridge necessitates replacement as it cannot be rehabilitated. The conditions of the Bridge and its vital connection for people and freight makes this project one of the highest priority bridge replacements in Pennsylvania. The widespread support for this project among the Pennsylvania delegation is demonstrated in the attached letter from myself and 17 of my colleagues in support of the initial grant request. It is vital that FHWA release the $500 million Large Bridge Project grant funding for this project and allow this project to proceed without delay. The severity of the current bridge conditions and the critical role this route plays in interstate commerce necessitates the commencement and conclusion of this project as soon as possible.
