Nazareth reveal LOWER NAZARETH TOWN SHIP -- A second test for asbes tos in Lower Nazareth Town ship's drinking water shows no mineral fibers are present, ac cording to Frank Barnet Jr., chairman of the local water au thority. The test, performed on sam ples take on Jan. 20, confirms an earlier test made in October 1979 that also showed "statisti cally insignificant" amounts of asbestos fibers. Asbestos fiber is known to 'cause lung ailments when in haled, but the health effects of asbestos in drinking water are not known. Since many water pipes, in cluding Lower Nazareth's, are made of asbestos cement, some environmental officials have ex pressed fear that asbestos could be contaminating water sup plies. Officials started worrying about asbestos contamination in Lower Nazareth's drinking wa ter in August 1979 after The Ex press reported on the local and national implications of the po tential problem.
