At the present time, we have only done an exploratory bioassay at our Corvallis, Oregon laboratory and in that test we did not measure vinyl chloride concen trations, so we do not know what the exposures really were in our test chambers. This is a particularly important question with vinyl chloride, since it doesn't stay in water for very long periods of time, at least according to the chemists. We are presently trying to negotiate an agreement with Bob Metcalf to prepare some labeled vinyl chloride so that we can make some analyses in these bioassays. At the moment we really do not have any information on vinyl chloride toxicity, but we hope to have some within the next few months. I would suggest that you contact John Eaton of my staff some time in August or September to ascertain the status of our work by that time. Very truly yours Donald I.
