The Honorable Doug Burgum Secretary Department of Interior 1849 C Street, NW Washington, DC 20240
Dear President Trump and Secretary Burgum:
South Dakota was honored to be the place where you, Mr. President, announced the executive order to establish the National Garden of American Heroes in a speech at Mount Rushmore prior to Independence Day fireworks in 2020. I was happy to see this idea revived in your recent Executive Order Celebrating America's 250th Birthday.
I have been approached by a patriotic landowner in my state willing to donate 40 acres of land to the federal government to serve as the site for the Garden of Heroes. This land is approximately one mile east of the Mount Rushmore National Monument, in Keystone, South Dakota.
Western South Dakota is home to many sculptural renderings of America's greatest leaders, like the presidents on Mount Rushmore and the City of Presidents in Rapid City, which displays statues of each of America's presidents. Mr. President, you'll be pleased to know a statue of you will be added this spring.
I agree that it is time to honor the citizens who embodied America's spirit. This particular parcel of land lies in the shadow of George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson, and would be a prime location for your vision.
I kindly request a meeting regarding the creation of the National Garden of American Heroes. I've included a map of the 40 acres from the landowner. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to the opportunity to present our case.
Sincerely,
Enclosed: Rushmore Property Map
