AIA-43 ASBESTOS INFORMATION ASSOCIATION/NORTH AMERICA A meeting of the Board of Directors was held pursuant to notice on October 21, 1971, at 10.00 A.M. at 22 East 40th Street, New York, New York. The following members were present by their indicated representatives: Atlas Asbestos Company George Barge Certain-teed Products Corporation W. E. Gatewood Flintkote Company J. A. Rishel GAF Corporation R. Power Fraser Johns-Manville Corporation F. J. Solon, Jr. National Gypsum Company A. H. Fay Panacon Corporation E. W. Swain Raybestos-Manhattan Corporation I. H. Weaver Also present were W. P. Raines, M. M. Swetonic and G. Earl Parker, Johns-Manville Corporation; and Bradley Walls and M. Neville, Borns, Van Kirk, Jube 6 Kafer. Mr. Fay acted as Chairman of the meeting and Mr. Swetonic acted as secretary and kept the minutes thereof. The minutes of the previous meeting of the Board were approved as presented. Mr. Parker reported on two suggested changes in the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws of the Association, *ne first would establish a Board of Directors of no more than nine members, at least a majority of which would have to be elected AIA-43 -4- converted in 1970, with a minimum of $2,000, was approved. This structure will produce revenue for 1972 from the founding companies of approximately $170,000. New members will be added at the same dues structure, with the exception that non converters (miners, importers, etc.) will be assessed a flat fee a $2,000. A letter to this effect will be sent to all those companies that expressed interest in the AIA/NA or who attended the September industry seminar. If, within three weeks after the sending of the letters, a reply has not been received, the potential new member companies will be contacted by Board members according to a list put together at the Board meeting. Mr. Swetonic will notify the appropriate Directors an to which, if any, of their "prospects" have not replied within three weeks after the mailing. Mr. Raines reported that he has received information from two crocidolite distributors that the Senate Commerce Committee is planning to recommend a complete ban on the importation of blue fiber. Investigations in Washington thus far indicate no such intention on the part of the Commerce Committee. However, this matter is being followed closely. It was the feeling of the Board that if such a ban is proposed, the AIA/NA should oppose it. Mr. Solon will contact Dr. George Wright to discuss the nature and basis of such opposition.
