It is perfectly satisfactory to Dr. Means, to me and to Dr, Hunter to have him appointed as an assistant in the School of Public Health. This seems probably necessary be cause the lead fund is, I think, in the name of the School of Public Health. I do not know in what department he would be, however. Thank you for putting Miss Virginia Butler down for a salary of #1200 a year. Unfortunately she has not yet received her cheok down here, so that it is possible that something may be holding it up. I think both she and Dr. Hunter really need their salaries. If there is. anything I can do further in this matter I shall be glad. Consider me yours sinoerely. October B, 1925. N41862.01 at V v Septeaher 30, 1925* Bear Ur* 4b* v'':.;,- It is entirely satisfactory to os, slnoe yoa have the money available, to have Dr. Aonald Hunter on a, 01500 salary from the Lead Fund and Mias Virginia Butler on 01200 fro the same fund. Isuppose Miss Butler will be on Services and Wages. Hoe do you wish Dr. Hunter to be listed? Bo you and Dr. Means wish bln to be appointed to an asslstantship or a research fellowship in order to give him sane aoadesdo standing, or do yen wish him to be put on Services and Wages? If you wish the latter it could be done without referring it to the Corporation. 1 think i$ Is, however, more satis factory to the men who have definite academic duties to carry out, whether in research or otherwise, to have a definite academic standing and I think ltis a better system to have persons in academic positions on an academic standing in order to i^oid actoinistrative confusion. It must be reoogcised, howev^ that ifBr* Bcotfrrls tobe appointed to an academio position in tfee'-tt&loal School the appointment cannot be acted upon by the Corporation until it has came before the faculty of the Medical School and that now could not be before the November meeting of the Faculty* Therefore Br Hunter's salary could not be voted upon by the Corporation before the middle of Hovember. In that case the first cheek would not be sent until the first of Deqesher, though the N41862.02 'if total amount ho would get eventually I would still, arrange to h^plSOO. H If you should desire to have Dr, Hunter appointed in the School of Pub-" lie Health the appointment does not have to cope before the Faculty but V^S can go straight to the Corporation^ Will you kindly let me know just what I am to do about this, anwhile I will see, that Miss Virginia Butler la put down under, Spr&dss^aiia -lg*s af $1300 la year, the salary to -be phddged -against the, - apeclal lead Fund of $5#<p0f- unless yon. inform me this is incorrect, ' <':.'.i, Vfcry.-aimeerely yours. Dr, Keans, I think, has spo ken to you about these two and he has also approved their employment.
