Organization of Committee At the present time there are seven companies which have volunteered to serve on this committee. It was agreed that in the future the committee should be open to representatives from any member company of the PVC Safety Group. EPA Alternatives There was a general discussion of EPA's review of the present vinyl chloride standard and alternatives for the industry. These included such concepts as overturning the existing standard or opposing any tightening of the standard as it is now written. It was agreed that these alternative options would be outlined to the Steering Committee on September 25. If the program is approved, a more detailed program would be developed at a meeting of the committee tentatively scheduled for October 9, 1980. Lawrence Technical Director SPI-U917 ATTACHMENT A ALTERNATIVES COMMITTEE STATEMENT OF MISSION AND PURPOSE \ The mission and purpose of the PVC Safety Group's Alternatives Committee will be: 1. To initiate, develop and recommend to the Steering Committee of the PVC Safety Group sets of alternative actions that might be brought into play in situations that bear on the continued vigor of the industry. Alternatives will include: (a) actions that might best be taken to improve the industry's image, reputation and regulatory posture, and (b) actions to help it avoid unreasonable and unnecessary regulations. 2. To undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the Steering Committee. SPI-11918
