Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of former State Legislator Arnett E. Girardeau
On Thursday, October 26, 2017, former State Legislator Arnett E. Girardeau, DDS passed away. Girardeau represented District 16 in the Florida House of Representatives from 1976 to 1982 and represented Senate District 7 from 1982 to 1992. He served as the first African American President Pro Tempore from 1988 to 1990 and was a founding member of the Florida Conference of Black State Legislators. Girardeau earned a dental degree from Howard University in Washington, D C. and was inducted into the Florida Civil Rights Hall of Fame this June.
As a symbol of respect for the memory of former State Legislator Arnett E. Girardeau, and his service to Florida, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the County Courthouse of Duval, Florida, the City Hall of Jacksonville, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, November 4, 2017.
