Dear Dr. Kehoe, I enclose copy of a letter together with a summary of results of inhalation experiments that were carried' out at Porton by Miss Cremer on TetraEthyl Lead and TetraMethyl Lead in rats. These results were obtained following exposure of rats at varying atmospheric concentrations to the orga.nolead compound for a period of one hour and so are not truly comparable to the results of your work on rats. However, they do seem to confirm that TML is less toxic than TEL to rats. We passed a copy of your progress report to Dr. Barnes and the results that you indicate in relation to dogs have caused considerable interest. I am glad to have them. We shall have further information to report shortly, and then a great deal more on long-term exposure of dogs, in particular, at a considerably later time. The thing I think it necessary to keep in mind is that under certain circumstances, and in the case of dogs, TML is considerably more toxic than TEL. Just where man fits into the picture is something else again. . Again, however, from the practical viewpoint of industrial hygiene and human tolerance to persistent conditions, these differences may well be of very little significance. With respect to your letter of November Sth, and the additional reports, let me say that I have no great objection to the reproduction of these reports. On the other hand X believe it would be better technique to have them come from here, and therefore, I am sending 20 additional copies to 20 Berkeley Square. I can send more, and will do so in response to your request. In my view, the affect of the report tends to be diluted by its reproduction, while as an official report of this Laboratory it has a certain status; So long As we can supply your needs it is better to use our copies. If you run out and wish to supply information in a hurry, copies will do in an emergency, but this is.not a good procedure otherwise, in my view. Mrs. Kehoe and I are planning to spend Christmas in Florida, leaving here on the 18th. I shall return home on January 2nd. With best wishes for the holidays to you and your family.
