Mr. James R. Hurd Georgia Pacific Corporation 900 S.W. Fifth Avenue Portland, Oregon 97204
Dear Mr. Hurd:
The Association will hold its Third Annual Industry-Government Conference September 8-9, 1976, at Stouffer's National Center Hotel, Arlington, Virginia (five minutes from Washington National Airport on Jefferson Davis Highway). The program is designed to review the practical problems associated with asbestos in the workplace and community environment and their solutions, with discussion by representatives from government regulatory agencies and industry. A copy of the tentative Conference program is attached.
Because of your involvement in the overall asbestos industry and your interest in the asbestos-health issue, we cordially invite you to join with other industry leaders on this meaningful occasion. As you may know, AIA/NA submitted a detailed industry response to OSHA's proposed revision of the asbestos standard. We enclose for information excerpts from this response which includes letter of transmittal, summary and recommendations, and medical statement. An update on asbestos regulations and rulemaking procedures will be addressed at the Conference. There is no charge for attendance other than the cost of meals, reception, and proceedings. A registration form is attached to permit us to make appropriate arrangements. Deadline for hotel reservations is August 24.
We look forward to hearing from you. In the event your schedule precludes attendance, we would be pleased to learn of an appro priate person from your organization to represent you.
Sincerely,
R. H. Mereness Executive Director
