Subject:
Touraine Paint is using Hedman fiber for tennis court paints. The only reason they buy Hedman is due to the fact that Hedman's bags do not indicate that the material is asbestos, nor do the bags have the OSHA caution label. Touraine does not want their employees to know that they are working with asbestos.
Recently Touraine obtained three bags of 7TF1 from Lukens Chemical for texture paint. Touraine picked the material up at Luken's warehouse.
Don Lukens, owner, advised that the Touraine driver, per direct orders
from the president of the company, took off the outer ply of paper with
the identifing markings before returning to the plant. Again, the
ostrich approach; do not let the employees know what they are handling.

I advised D. Lukens that Touraine's actions are against the best inter
est of the asbestos industry, and requested that he no longer market asbestos
to them in the future. He commented that since he sells them other material
he will supply them asbestos if requested, with the proviso that they do not
tell him what if anything they do to the bags prior to bringing them into
their plant.
